From the back (thankfully) of a Rugen train

(Sound on this page is EWS Class 37 leaving Perth on the Roayal Scotsman luxury tour train in October 2000 - Thanks to C. Davis)

In 2010 I visited Germany and, using DB and a EuroRail pass visited The Rugen Railway, The Harz Railway and the very narrow gauge (one rail) Wuppertal suspension railway. The locomotives and rolling stock of the Rugen and Harz lines were the inspiration for many G scale trains and sometimes it seemed like you were looking at a very large garden railway. The trains, track and buildings were all in excellent condition and travelling on the lines an unforgettable experience.

Given the time available we first flew to Berlin.
This is the new Berlin multi-level station from the inside. There seem to be four levels and at one of the busier intersections a strange music performance was taking place

Staying in Stralsund we made our way to Rugen Island over one of these bridges
