Some Garden Railways in the United States |
While Europe may claim to be the home of Garden Railways enthusiasts in the States have moved it on somewhat.
First is a layout in Wisconsin described here by the chief director:
I have a garden railroad in alot of rocks hauled in from 40 miles away from a trap rock quarry so they are a very pretty blue color with hints of red and green in them. My layout is 211 feet of main line (mostly on trestles and bridges) and about 40 feet of sidings and passing tracks. My yard has alot of Maple trees which provide fantastic fall colors of green, red, yellow, scarlet, and brown. I have a few friends who come over in the fall especially to cook a steak on the grill and run the trains. This is a picture of my friend Ed next to a bridge made out of a real railroad tie in my front yard. Ed also has a layout in Minnesota just a few miles from here. I am now in the process of getting ready for planting flowers around the layout in pots (some big and some small), mostly petunas and marigolds but also a few others. I like containers for the flowers as I can rearrange them as I like to see a lot of colors and some get eaten by rabbits and deer. I also am working on a small water pond that has water coming from a small hand pump like we used when I was a little boy in the early 60's.

I am always happy to hear from anyone with a question on or information they want to share about Garden Railways, Scottish Railways or railways in general - It might be something suitable to add to my site.
And, A special request to any train photographers in the USA, Europe or in fact anywhere in the world - can you help me improve my web site? I am looking for any pictures you have taken yourself - .jpg images ( .jpg only please) which would be duly acknowledged on my international photo page - Thank you in advance - Sandy.
